
Margarita M. was born in Leningrad, USSR (present day St. Petersburg, Russia) into a Jewish / Armenian family strongly inclined toward theater, music, computer programming, mathematics, cars and literature. Margarita’s love of storytelling, performing and reading was apparent at an early age. In fact her first word was knigi, “books” in Russian. In 1989 the family came to the US as refugees, fleeing political oppression in the Soviet Union. Margarita went on to receive a BFA in Theater from New York University.
Margarita M. lives in Harlem, New York with her chocolate pit bull Hershey and divides her time between writing, teaching yoga, family, friends and activism. Her writing has appeared on the pages of Shambhala Sun Magazine, as well as on the The Interdependence Project Blog, The Under 35 Project, BK Nation Blog, MANT Magazine and Seventeen Magazine Online. In 2012 Margarita was the subject of a 12Questions interview.
